Edgar’s Obsessed

Cats are cats, and I happen to have 2 of them.

Both were rescues, and both have really amusing personalities. My gray tabby, named Edgar, is an affectionate cat that we rescued in the dead of winter, a little more than a year ago, in early February.

This past salmon season, I noticed something really interesting. Not surprising, but interesting never-the-less. Edgar loves salmon eggs. Really loves them. When I clean and cure salmon eggs in my basement (a fact that is not loved by my wife), Edgar follows me downstairs and patiently begs for eggs. And of course, I would give him some. I couldn’t figure out if he had a true preference for king salmon eggs or coho eggs. He definitely isn’t a huge fan of lake trout eggs or steelhead roe.

Even though all of the salmon eggs have long since been cured, Edgar still follows me to the basement and looks for me to give him some salmon eggs any time I’m in the vicinity of the washtubs. Poor, deprived cat, with his huge sad cat eyes as he looks at me and meows, begging for his favorite treat. Oh well. I guess he’ll have to wait until next fall.
