I met Captain Kevin close to a decade ago, and we’ve been good friends ever since. It was with Kevin that I filmed our “Out of the Water and Into the Kitchen” television show pilot. While this was a show featuring walleye fishing on the Detroit River, it was actually on a bass boat while fishing the world famous Lake St. Clair for smallmouths where we felt most at home.
It was Capt. Kevin’s dream to be a bass fishing guide, and I’m proud to say that he is living his dream. A former FLW Tour competitor, not only does he guide smallmouth on his home waters of the famous Lake St. Clair in southeast Michigan, he also guides for big muskies on the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair. Using vertical jigging techniques on the river, he puts customers on huge muskies with savage strikes from the depths. On Lake St. Clair, Kevin uses casting techniques with his customers to get bites from these toothy fish. When he’s targeting bass, Kevin and his clients cast artificials to catch impressive numbers of smallmouth from his Ranger bass boat.
Even though it’s casting artificials for bass that gets Capt. Kevin’s blood going, he’s equally as passionate about the prolific musky bites that Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River offer. At Sport Fish Michigan, we view Capt. Kevin as a tremendous friend and ally in our network of fishing guides. Not only can he produce fish, it’s downright fun to spend time with Kevin on his boat fishing for bass, musky, or whatever.
